When President Lee Teng-hui visited the eastern Taiwan in 1979, he felt the necessity of a balanced economic development between the east and the west. And then he proposed a policy of "industrial eastward migration". The Stone Industry Development Center of the Foundation established a preparatory meeting in August 1992. Ministry of Economic Affairs Bureau, Taiwan Marble Association and the stone industry donation fund US1.4 million dollars to set up as the only impersonal R & D entity in eastern Taiwan.In recent years, the domestic construction industry is facing a downturn as well as the impact of Taiwans accession to the WTO on the opening of imports of stone products from China. The stone industry has been transformed into an international and high value industry.
