Applications:
Barite has been the primary weight material used in drilling fluids from 1920’s.
Advantages:
Barite is essentially insoluble and chemically inert,does not react with other drilling fluid additives or interfere with their function.Barite is prefered over other materials because of its high density,low production costs,low abrasiveness and ease of handling.Other weight materials have been used,but they are problematic and costly.
