What is Urinary Incontinence? Urinary incontinence is the uncontrolled leakage of urine upon laughing, coughing, sneezing and exercising, and 40% of all women in their 40's and older suffer from urinary incontinence. Urinary incontinence is increasingly recognized as a significant problem for the past decade. Depending on the effect of the detrusor muscle, urinary incontinence is classified into urge, stress and mixed urinary incontinence. Women experience incontinence twice as often as men. Pregnancy and childbirth, menopause, and the structure of the female urinary tract account for this difference. But both women and men can become incontinent from neurological injury, birth defects, strokes, multiple sclerosis, and physical problems associated with aging. |
