Tetracaine hydrochloride is a long-acting ester anesthetic, mainly used in mucosal surface anesthesia, nerve block anesthesia, epidural anesthesia and subarachnoid anesthesia. It may also be applied to the skin before starting an intravenous (injection) to decrease pain from the procedure.
