Carbon black oil is the main raw material used to produce carbon black, an important industrial chemical that imparts special properties to finished products. The carbon black market is dominated by a small number of multinational producers who utilise residual fuel oil as a source of carbon. Composed of nucleated clusters of elemental carbon, carbon black adds colour, UV stability and anti-static properties to plastic films, electrical components, inks and automotive tyres, it adds strength, abrasion resistance and heat dissipation to name but a few. Applications. In many cases, the type and specification of carbon black oil used will determine the final properties of the carbon black produced.
