Coconut fiber which in world trade is known as coco fiber, coir fiber, coir yarn, coir mats, and rugs. Coconut fiber are an important part of coconuts with a portion of 35% of the total weight of coconuts.
Traditionally, coconut fiber can be used to make brooms, doormats, ropes and other household utensils. Technological developments, the physic-chemical properties of fiber, and consumer awareness to return to natural materials have made coco fiber used as raw material for the carpet, vehicle upholstery and dashboard, mattress, pillow, and hardboard industries. Coconut fiber is processed to become Coir Fiber Sheet which is used for coating car seats, furniture items, pots, geotextiles, and mattresses. Good coconut fiber has a water content of up to 18%.
