Always ground the welding operation securely (not to be used for tapping rods or re-tapping) and always ensure that your grounding clamps, cables and connections are in good condition.
The cable is screwed directly to the contact area.
Copper-plated brass contacts and copper pigtails.
Cable clamps with crimp connectors.
We often see many weld quality and welder performance issues caused by grounding clamps that are either a) in poor condition or b) poorly designed grounding clamps. Yes, it's a basic piece of equipment, but it can make all the difference!
What if the ground clamp is in poor condition or poor quality?
Inside the welding earthing holder itself: damaged or worn parts, poor fixture design.
As soon as a "connection" problem occurs in a grounded clamp, the affected component will begin to heat up. The heat then accelerates the initial problem, causing further damage to the connection, which then causes more heat, so the cycle continues.
Check your welding earthing holder regularly to ensure that the cable lug is securely mounted and bolted. Replace clamps if they are deteriorated, e.g. weak springs, broken parts, constant overheating, etc.
