Ferro silicon so called ferrosilicon is used as a source of silicon to reduce metals from their oxides and to deoxidize steel and other ferrous alloys. This prevents the loss of carbon from the molten steel (so called blocking the heat). It can be used to make other ferroalloys. In the manufacture of cast iron, ferrosilicon is used for inoculation of the iron to accelerate graphitization. In arc welding, ferrosilicon can be found in some electrode coatings.
Application area of ferro silicon:
1.In the steel making field, Ferro silicon is used as deoxidizer and alloying agent to precipit and diffuse deoxidation.Adding a certain amount silicon of fe-si to the steel can obviously improve the strength ,hardness ,elasticity and permeability of steel.
2.In the iron casting,ferro silicon is used as nodulant,adding ferro silicon to cast iron ,it can prevent the formation of carbide and promote the precipitation of graphite and the nodulizing.
3.High-silicon ferro silicon can be used as reductant for producing the low-carbon alloy in ferro alloy industry.
4.In addition, ferro silicon powder can be used as a suspended phase in the mineral processing industry and coatings for welding electrodes in the electrode manufactruing.
