Although the conventional packing column has excellent selectivity and long column life, better peak asymmetry can be obtained when the samples are acidic, neutral and weakly basic compounds. However, when analyzing the more alkaline compounds, the peak shape of the sample may become worse, and the tailing is serious, and the accuracy of quantitative analysis will be decreased, which is caused by the residual silicon hydroxyl group on the stationary phase. Although many manufacturers make a second reaction on the silica gel surface, which is called "tail sealing", to reduce the effect of the residual silicone hydroxyl group, but often cannot eliminate the residual silicone hydroxyl group. Thermo's Hypersil BDS (Base Deactived Silica gel) series products were developed to reduce the residual silica hydroxyl group to its limit, and modern derivative reaction technology was applied to produce true homogeneous inverting fillers especially suitable for basic compounds.

Characteristics of Hypersil BDS packing
Alkaline compounds have better peak shape
Longer column life
Better stability
Like alkaline compounds, acidic and neutral compounds also have excellent peak shape -- a true universal column filler
