Monel 400 has the following features:

Monel400 is a kind of corrosion resistant alloy with the most consumable, the most useful and th most comprehensive performance.The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in hydrofluoric acid, fluorine gas and the hot strong alkali. Also it’s resistant to neutral solution, water and sea water, atmosphere, organic compounds. An important feature of the alloy is generally not to occur stress corrosion crack but with good cutting performance.

Monel400 alloy features organization of a single phase solid solution with high strength.

Monel 400 corrosion resistance:

Monel400 alloy has excellent corrosion resistance in fluorine, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and their derivatives.At the same time it presents better corrosion resistance in seawater than copper alloy. Monel400 is corrosion resistant in sulfuric acid with concentration less than 85%. Monel400 is one of few important materials resistant in hydrofluoric acid.Water corrosion, Monel400 alloy also has not only excellent corrosion resistance, but also pitting corrosion, stress corrosion in water, with corrosion rate less than 0.025 mm/a. Monel400 works continuously and stably in air at about 600℃, with corrosion rate less than 0.026 mm/a in the high temperature steam. Ammonia: Monel400 has good corrosion resistance below 585℃at anhydrous ammoia and ammoniation due to its high nickel content.

Monel 400 process performance and requirements:

Hot working

Annealing temperature should be controlled in 700-900℃ and fast air cooling is recommended to get the best corrosion resistance. Annealing parameters such as soaking time and temperature will directly affect the final grain size, so it should be carefully formulated.

Cold working

Intermediate annealing should be conducted due to high work hardening rate after experienced an enough deformation.

Cold forming deformation should be higher than 5%.

Monel400 welding process

It’s suitable for argon arc welding, plasma arc welding, gas shielded welding or hand arc welding, with pulsed arc welding preferred. surface treatment is recommended after welding.

Application for Monel 400:

Monel400 alloy is a kind of multi-purpose material, can be applied in many fields:
