Seedless barberry is a member of the family Berberidaceae. It has been widely used as a food additive. In Iran (South Khorasan), more than 20,000 tons of barberries are almost 97% of the world's total production. This quantity is supposed to be doubled in the coming 4-5 years due to the establishment of too many new gardens. Barberry is a valuable multipurpose plant.
