The MIT515 is the simplest unit available in the Megger MIT line of insulation resistance testers. The unit is capable of testing insulation resistance up to 5 kV output voltage and 10 TΩ resistance. The MIT515 comes standard with a range of new features and design updates which make it easy to use daily in professional settings.
The Megger MIT515 comes equipped with lithium ion fast-recharge batteries. With these batteries, a full charge can be achieved from empty in 2.5 hours. The batteries will last 6 hours on a single charge. In the worst case, a 30 minute charge will provide about 1 hour of life if tests need to be completed. The MIT515 can also run using AC line power.
The MIT515 features a large, clear, easy to read display, suitable for use in both bright and poorly lit environments. That means important information including resistance, voltage, leakage current, capacitance, battery status, and time constant are always visible no matter where you must test. In addition, the elapsed time of the test is displayed constantly on-screen, eliminating the need for separate timer.
The MIT515 also features a tough dual case design. This means that the unit's protective casing is actually double layered, providing strong protection. The inner layer of the case is fire retardant for safety. This layer also contributes to the MIT515's IP65 rating, meaning the unit has been tested to withstand entry by dust, dirt, and water, even at higher pressures. The outer layer of the case has been designed to protect the MIT515 from hard drops or knocks to the unit's body.
The MIT515 is the most basic unit in this series from Megger. As such, it is slightly less powerful and versatile than other models. Unlike other models, the MIT515 cannot perform Auto SV or DD tests. There is also no ramp test function. The unit also does not include USB or RS232 output options for transferring test data and is not compatible with Megger's PowerDB analysis software. Finally, there is no real-time clock and no way to perform temperature recording. All of these features are available on the next unit in the series, the MIT525.
All that said, the MIT515 is still a powerful and capable device for specific applications. The unit can perform tests on voltages from 250 V to 5 kV. Voltages can be selected in 10 V steps from 50 V to 1 kV as well as 25 V steps from 1 kV to the max. test voltage.
Voltage, capacitance with time constant, and leakage current can be measured by the MIT515. The unit features timer control, timer display, 3mA test currents, and alarm limit mode. A user-defined lock voltage range is also included. Noise rejection is 3mA with 2% error guarding 500 kΩ leakage with a 100 MΩ load.
Three preset voltage ranges are provided on the MIT515 in insulation test mode, plus a user settable lock voltage range. Any selectable test voltage may be locked and restored via the selector switch, thereby increasing efficiency of commissioning and repetitive tests. Preconfigured diagnostic tests include Polarization Index (PI), Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), and dielectric discharge (DD).
To keep thing simpler, two rotary switches control most major measurement changes. The large backlit display enables multiple results to be displayed simultaneously.
