A microchannel plate (MCP) is a special fiber optic element and secondary-electron multiplier which detects and amplifies electrons in two dimensions. As MCP has the characteristics of high gain, low noise, high resolution, low power, long life and the self-saturation effect, and it is sensitive not only to electrons but to ions, vacuum ultraviolet light, X-rays and Gamma-rays, making it useful in a wide range of detection applications. |
