Coconut Sugar

Offering the same sweetness as normal cane sugar and other sweeteners, coconut sugar is a perfect 1:1 alternative to normal table sugar. However, unlike normal cane sugar with a glycemic index between 55 and 84, coconut sugar offers a lower glycemic index of 35, a figure which is advisable for diabetic consumers. Coconut Sugar has a nutritional content far richer than all other commercially available sweeteners. It is a rich source of magnesium, potassium, zinc, and iron. It contains Vitamin B1, B2, B3, and B6. Compared to brown sugar, Coconut Sugar contains twice the amount of iron, four times the magnesium, and over 10 times the zinc. Coconut sugar has become an emerging healthier choice for retail consumers.

Coconut sugar is made through a simpler process than the one used for cane or beet sugar. However, it ultimately also contains fructose, glucose, and sucrose. The sap extracted from coconut palm flowers contains 80 % water, 15 % sugar, and 5 % minerals, which is why it transforms from a translucent liquid to a dense and dark brown substance when heated, until it crystallizes, making the coconut sugar we know.

On top of the delicious flavor and the hint of coconut, coconut sugar offers special characteristics. With a highly soluble character and substantially lower melting point, coconut sugar is a perfect choice for confectionery and the foodservice industry.

Health Benefits

Coconut sugar offers a myriad of health benefits, especially when compared to something like white cane sugar. Some of these benefits include:

A lower impact on blood sugar levels (coconut sugar ranks just 35 on the glycemic index), suitable alternative for diabetics.Higher amounts of vitamin C, potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron and copper.Low fructose alternative (more suitable for those with sensitivities)Contains phytonutrients, such as polyphenols, flavonoids, and antioxidants (anti-aging properties)Contains the B vitamin inositol, often used as a mood boosterGood for diet

Application

Our coconut sugars come in a soft granulate form that gives the most convenience in food application. They dilute and melt easily, and are not easy to burn. No more sugar cane caramel failures! Coconut caramel guarantees cooking success while keeping blood sugar low.

Excellent for: Baking, chocolate making, confectionaries, beverages, smoothies, shakes, coffee, and teas.

Application: 1:1 ratio sugar cane crystals substitute, both in volume and weight.

Common Misconception

Coconut sugar is sometimes confused with (Brown/Aren/Arenga Sugar) to the naked eye. Arenga sugar is another type of sweetener that derives from a different kind of palm tree (Arenga Pinnata) and yields a very distinctly different product. Arenga wears a much darker brown color, sometimes appearing black-tinted (thus its common name in some places, ‘Black Sugar Palm’); coconut sugar owns a brown that ranges from bright yellow to reddish-brown. In aroma, coconut sugar also displays caramel aroma notes not found in Arenga Sugar. The same caramel notes in sweetness are found in coconut sugar that is not found in Arenga sugar.
