Q: Why is my ice not coming out as clear as in some pictures I have seen?

A: The truth is that is can be complicated to achieve the "perfect" ice ball. Most people who purchase this mold are more than happy with the results, but for those of you who want the most pristine Death Stars there are some additional steps you can take. Here are some tips that I have had success with:

Use distilled/filtered water, rather than tap water.

Try Boiling the Water first. Some of the haziness often seen in the ice ball comes from microscopic bubbles trapped in the water. Boiling can help cause those microscopic bubbles to dissipate resulting in clearer ice once frozen.

Q: How will I know if the two halves of the ice mold are lined up?

A: There is a small tab on the lower half of the mold that matches up with a small cut in the upper half. As long as you match these up your Death Star will be perfectly aligned.

Q: How much water should I add to the mold?

A: We recommend filling the mold up to 80 percent with water. Because water expands when frozen, this will result in a perfect Death Star Ice mold. Adding too much water can result in cracking of the ice.
