Yoko Sakura Leaf Tea
Yoko (Cherry Blossom) tea developed by Tun-shi, Ehime Prefecture, Japan
This is fermented tea that uses the leaves of a cherry tree called "Yoko" that was developed by Toon City in Ehime Prefecture, Japan. Fermenting the leaves brings out the characteristic flavor of the cherry leaves.
Yoko-Sakura was the result of a miraculous hybridization that finally succeeded after over 20 years of painstaking effort by Masaaki Takaoka from To-on city of Ehime prefecture, as his means of commemorating his disciples who had died in the war and praying for peace. Yoko-zakura is a hardy sakura cultivar whose deep-colored flowers are able to bloom in both hot and cold countries.
Yoko-Sakura is grown using the solar sharing method where agricultural products are organically cultivated under solar panels. The solar panels serve as shades from the intense sunlight during mid-summer, which allows the sakura plants to grow without being subject to extreme stress and also protects the farmers so that they can work with peace of mind. This arrangement is part of our efforts towards achieving the SDGs.
